2 x Global Chairs in Robotic Manipulation and Grasping
The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint two new full Professors in Robotic Manipulation, as part of the University’s campaign to recruit a team of ‘Global Chairs’ addressing key challenges faced by society in the 21st century. One of the positions is focussed on mechatronics and hardware-related aspects and is based in the School of Engineering. The other is focussed on computational and software-related aspects and is based in the School of Computer Science.
Both positions are affiliated with the Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems (L-CAS), the University’s cross-disciplinary research group in robotics. L-CAS specialises in technologies for perception, learning, decision-making, control and interaction in autonomous systems, and the integration of these capabilities in application domains including agri-food, healthcare, intelligent transportation, logistics, nuclear robotics, and service robotics.
Potential topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Machine learning for manipulation
- Grasp planning and motion planning
- Forceful interactions and compliant control
- Reactive grasping and tactile sensing
- Soft-robotics and intelligent end-effector design
- Grasping of deformable or delicate objects
The University of Lincoln provides excellent facilities for robotics across three sites, including the Isaac Newton Building at the central Brayford campus, Lincoln (robotics laboratories, computing and engineering laboratories); the Riseholme campus (agri-robotics field centre, demonstration farm with the UK’s first fully robotic fruit farm); and the National Centre for Food Manufacturing, Holbeach (experimental food factory).
