Four Studentships Available for October 2025 Entry

The University of Lincoln is currently searching for exceptional candidates for four fully funded studentship opportunities, with enrolment commencing in October 2025. Applications close on 30th April 2025.

Three Interconnected Research Themes

ENACT PhD studentships focus on three key interdisciplinary research areas, closely related to what we do in L-CAS:

  1. Environmental Monitoring and Sustainability
Addressing urgent global challenges by advancing techniques for environmental sensing and sustainable practices.
  2. Data-economic Machine Learning and AI
Pushing the boundaries of AI efficiency and applicability, addressing the ever-increasing energy and data needs of machine learning, with a focus on “data-economic” solutions.
  3. Energy Systems and Materials Innovation
Responding to the pressing need for sustainable energy solutions and advanced materials.

Current Projects to Choose From

Candidates will have the opportunity to work on one of these innovative projects (some with our L-CAS Team members):

  • Predicting the future of heart health: Data-economic deep learning for the prediction of acute coronary syndromes from cardiac CT images
  • Multiscale Characterisation of Coatings for Advanced Thermal Model Validation
  • Healthy Peat: AI assisted recovery of the UK’s carbon-rich lowland landscapes
  • Machine Learning for Changing Environments: Using covariate shift to detect and address concept shift in continual learning settings
  • Next-Gen Energy System for Lightweight EVs with Thermal, and Control Advances

Comprehensive Funding Package and Support

ENACT’s fully funded studentship package includes:

  • Tuition fees, maintenance stipend, and funding for travel and consumables
  • Supervision by academic experts
  • Opportunities to work with external stakeholders
  • Excellent training opportunities
