“Trilobots” Take the Field: LCASTOR Team Ran Successful Robot Football Workshop for our Lincoln Students

Last Wednesday (29/1/2025) evening saw the Isaac Newton Building buzzing with excitement as around 20 University of Lincoln students gathered for an innovative robotics workshop organised by LCASTOR (Lincoln Centre for Autonomous Systems’ RoboCup Team). The event combined coding skills with sporting fun as participants programmed Trilobots to play football.

The workshop, a collaboration between LCASTOR and the Computer Science Society, provided students with hands-on experience in robot programming. Participants worked in small groups, getting to grips with the fundamentals of robotics while developing code to control their Trilobot’s movements on the makeshift football pitch.

“What a fantastic turnout!” remarked one of the organisers. “The enthusiasm from the students was incredible, and it was brilliant to see their robots come to life on the field.” The practical session gave participants valuable insights into robot navigation, sensor integration, and real-time control systems – all essential skills in modern robotics.

As part of L-CAS‘s thriving robotics community, these events help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, while building connections among tech enthusiasts across the university and enabling students an exciting glimpse into the workd of robotics.

Given the success of this inaugural Trilobot football workshop, LCASTOR has hinted at more exciting events to come. Students interested in robotics and autonomous systems should keep an eye out for future workshops and opportunities to get involved with Lincoln’s dynamic robotics community.
