The 24th Field Robot Event (FRE) will take place at the University of Lincoln’s Riseholme Campus, Lincoln, UK, in June 2027. Exact dates are to be confirmed. The event is hosted by the University of Lincoln, with the local organising team based in L-CAS.
About the Field Robot Event
FRE is an international, student-driven competition in autonomous agricultural robotics. University teams from around the world design, build and test field robots that tackle real farming challenges, from navigating crop rows to detecting weeds and other objects in the field. The event is organised by an association of academic partners across Europe.
FRE 2027 tasks
The 2027 contest includes navigation, weed detection, and identifying and locating unmarked sheep, plus a freestyle task in which teams present an original idea of their own. The full task description, with rules and scoring, is on the FRE 2027 tasks page.
Our team: LCASTOR
Lincoln’s own student team, LCASTOR, will compete in FRE 2027 alongside teams from other universities, on home ground this time. LCASTOR has already taken part in the 2025 and 2026 editions of the event. Find out more about the team, and get in touch about competing, spectating or sponsoring, on the LCASTOR FRE 2027 page.
Registration
Team registration will open soon. Please follow the FRE website for dates, registration and practical information.
