The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a Founding Professor of Machine Learning to join its School of Computer Science. This post is one of four new Chairs in Computer Science currently being advertised, demonstrating the University’s commitment to research excellence and increasing focus on and investment in science and technology.

This important Chair position will provide the appointed post-holder with the opportunity to set up and lead a new research group. It is envisaged that the group will focus on research into theoretical aspects, methodologies and practical applications of machine learning, as well as providing fundamental expertise in core machine learning to the School’s other research areas.  A number of staff appointments have been set aside to populate this new group once the Professor has been appointed. This new group will sit alongside the School’s existing research groups in Robotics and Autonomous Systems, Computer Vision and Human Computer Interaction. It is expected that the activity of the new group will complement the School’s existing research profile and reach out to other disciplines both across the University and externally. The University has recently invested heavily in two interdisciplinary Institutes in Health and in Agri-Food Technology, providing further opportunities to develop cross-disciplinary work.

The successful candidate should have a sustained track record of excellence in scientific publication, income generation, research student supervision, leadership of more junior academic staff, and real-world impact.

As an Athena SWAN Bronze Award holder at both Institutional and School level we are committed to advancing gender equality in STEM, therefore female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
